Meet Miss Kristen
Kristen Barnes started dancing at the age of 2 and at 9 years old was accepted into the prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts Pre-professional program for ballet. In addition, she continued to train in jazz, tap, lyrical and Musical Theatre at various dance studios.
​
Directly after graduation, Kristen was hired by Celebrity Cruises for the inaugural run if the MV Mercy. After her contract was up, she was hired by Jean Ann Ryan Productions and began another tour on the Japan Cruise Line. Her dreams came true when she became a Radio City Rockette. From there her career took off, performing on several episodes of SNL, MTV music awards (which also featured Kristen's choreography) and on A Night of Too Many Stars with John Stewart. From there she booked national & international commercials for Coca Cola, TV Land, Papa Johns Pizza, Bloomingdale's and many more!

Kristen has hung up her professional dance & performing shoes and excitedly shares her knowledge with future aspiring entertainers!

Broadway Beats: Dance for the Love of It
Small Group Class!
Broadway Beats* is a dynamic and exciting class designed to help you develop the skills you need to shine on stage, but most importantly help you fall in love with dance!
Each week, students will learn fresh routines inspired by current Broadway productions, brush up on technique, and explore popular steps that will elevate their performances.
Using our unique teaching methodology, we ensure every class prepares you for the audition room by building confidence, precision, and stage presence. While some dance experience is a bonus, we welcome students of all levels and are committed to helping everyone grow.
Recommended for high school & college students, this class offers the perfect blend of training, creativity, and passion.
No recording of you dancing unless YOU CHOOSE to want to be filmed!

On Deck: Performers Edition
Calling all 6th - 8th grade performers! This is your chance to become a true triple threat!
​
Ready to Shine on stage?! Join On Deck and learn how to master multiple roles as a swing, understudy, and/or ensemble member. Gain confidence, flexibility, and the skills to step into any track with ease—whether singing or dancing.
What you will learn:
How to pick up songs and routines quickly.
How to adapt quickly to different characters.
How to notate your choreography like a professional so you can remember it.
Confidence in all types of roles.
Fundamental dance techniques.

At BYA, we believe when put together like minded students, with the same dreams and goals, they automatically begin to push each other, and find a non competitive network to support each other.
This class is for students we have worked with and showed interest in leveling up their craft. They are selected based upon what is seen in classes, workshops, camps or lessons.
This class is only open to a select BYA students. Auditions for this class are possible but open spots are rare once filled.
Age varies. Semester class with showcase & opportunities to perform for Manager and Talent Agency.

Summer Audition Prep: Book the Role
​
Step into the spotlight and get audition-ready! In this small group class, students will rehearse a variety of scenes, songs, and dances from musicals being performed at local theaters this summer.
No matter what the audition will be they will have learned the fundamentals needed in auditions, such as character development, objectives, tactics, motivation, blocking & choreography.
Bonus, they will be familiar with the music in the musical.
When you sign up for the class, let us know what musical you plan to audition with and we can help make sure you BOOK the ROLE.

Vocal Performance & Intro to Vocal Performance
Coming this Spring!
Want to take singing lessons but are not sure?
Want to learn how to perform a song and not just sing the lyrics?
Then this quick class is for you!
​
Intro to Vocal performance will focus on finding their voice, not yelling while singing & projection and stage presence
1st - 3rd grade ​​
Vocal Performance is slightly more advanced.
This group will:
Each month work on a 16 to 32 bar cut of music that will be able to be used at Auditions!
Students will learn what a cut of music is, make sure they sing the song on key, will learn simple vocal warmups, and will develop stage presence when they sing. This class is limited to only 5-7 students

4th to 6th grade *3rd depending one experience
Level: You think this could be your thing, or is a beginner who is dedicated!
